Divorce

If you are going through a divorce, you may be frustrated with the legal process and worried about what is going to happen to you in the future. One of the things I will do for you as your lawyer is reassure you that there are better times to come.

Child Custody and Support

Child custody in Texas is referred to as conservatorship. In 90 percent of all child custody cases, judges order joint conservatorship. In most cases, one parent will be the primary managing conservator and the other parent will have access rights (also known as visitation).

Modifications to Child Custody and Support

Life goes on after your divorce and many changes can occur in your life. When your life changes, child custody and support orders can be changed as well. In some cases, even community property settlements can be altered.

Community Property Settlement

One of the most highly litigated areas of divorce is division of community property. It is also an area where your lawyer's accounting skills can be as important as his legal skills. My undergraduate degree was in accounting and I even worked for the Country's largest public accounting firm in the mid-1980's.

Adoption

Adoption is one of the rare times in family law where everyone leaves the courthouse happy.

Grandparents' Rights

It's not unusual for a grandparent to need a lawyer's help to establish their rights with regard to visitation, conservatorship or even adoption of a grandchild. I have handled several such cases in the past.

Prenuptial Agreements

Many people entering second marriages choose to draft a prenuptial agreement, not only for their sake, but for the sake of their children. Without a prenuptial agreement, the assets that you expected to go to your children when you die could end up going to your spouse instead.
