Texas Adoptions

Guiding You Through the Adoption Process

Most family court judges — if they had a choice — would move adoption cases to the front of their docket. It's one of the rare times that everyone leaves the courthouse with a bounce in their step.

I'm Ryan Beason, a family law attorney in League City, Texas. Adoptions are one the legal cases that I enjoy the most. I take personal pride and satisfaction in guiding families through the legal steps that are required to make a child you own. I handle stepparent and relative adoptions, as well as adoptions where the biological and adoptive parents are not related.

Adoptions can be open (where the biological and adoptive parents know each other) or closed (where the parents do not know each other and will not stay in touch after the adoption). Adoptions can be arranged through a public agency or privately. No matter how you choose to adopt, a lawyer's help can make sure your adoption goes smoothly and ensure that the biological parent's rights are fully terminated.

Stepparent and Relative Adoptions

Stepparent and relative adoptions serve both an emotional and practical need. For a child, adoption provides the security of a stable home and parent-child relationship. As a parent, adoption gives you the legal right to make medical decisions, enroll the child in school, and cover the child under your employer's medical and dental plans.

Stepparent adoptions are often used when the biological parent is incarcerated, deceased, missing, or simply no longer involved in the child's life. The parental rights of the biological parents must be terminated before the stepparent or relative can adopt.

Foreign Adoptions

When you adopt a child from a foreign country, the adoption must be approved by both Texas social services and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CNS). I can help you through the process and answer your questions along the way.
